Where? To Thurston County of Course!

Yes we “sold the farm”, that’s why we’ve been quiet for a while. It was a bitter sweet decision. We didn’t want to give up our hard earned and created homestead in the city. However, between personal debts & the time it took Tanner to commute, we thought it’d be best to look for work closer to his employer.

Incase you didn’t know, Tanner works as a landscape designer for a company down here in west Olympia, Washington over by Tumwater, Wa.

Nature Perfect Landscape & Design incase you might be looking for a landscaping company for your own yard. They are an amazing company to work for & with, their specialties are stellar design & jaw dropping water features.

We decided to move closer to have a better work life balance as a family, and so that Tanner could spend more time with our kids.

Initially our plan was to buy again after selling, but with interest rates we found that homes with the land we were looking for, weren’t in our price range just yet.

So we signed a lease with a wonderful apartment complex. However, we’ve realized apartment life is not easy for us. We love working the land, and we miss our duckies that we had to re-home before we sold. Our dogs are also going crazy from losing the yard.

However, we are finding ways to make it work, even without owning our own land.

We have two garden beds from Olympia’s Rec Departments amazing Community Garden Program!

We are enjoying getting to know the Olympia area & Thurston County. There are some amazing hiking trails, parks, lakes and beaches in the area. So being outside regularly hasn’t been a problem.

We got the chance to visit the Olympia Farmers Market recently to see what high season is like! Did you know they are open year round?!?! It’s epic walking through their set up, and it makes you crave that community feeling buying local gives you. We plan on writing a blog post soon about our next visit.

Still struggling with missing our duckies, made some friends at our church who have a homestead of their own. Somewhat getting our animal fix there. Visiting Wilco or other farm stores right now is tough.

However, Thurston County’s Conservation District has some amazing programs in the area that we are thrilled about. Everything is still in the works, but an announcement of some kind is coming in the future!

One that we are excited for, and hope it will help us grow more of our urban farm revolution. Please join us in the revolution!

If you’re curious how you can join?

Start by subscribing to our website, that will give you updates for every new blog post & announcement.

Please email us with questions you have, and we can answer them in our next blog post.

We are rebranding because of the move so things on the website are a bit jumbled, and we are making an effort to help this change be more cohesive. Especially since our content may change with us not owning a home any more.

Also we are updating our resource page. There are things all homesteaders need, but we are also going to include more local guides. We are also looking into adding content throughout the website about homesteading without owning a home.
