Who are We, at Metro Farm Tacoma?

Megan & Tanner – The Founding Family

Meet the Family!

We are a family at Metro Farm Tacoma and as we grow we hope to include more of our urban community in the family farm! We like to prioritize local families first, we’ve started this side hustle for just one little local family after all!

While this is our journey, we hope overtime to have more families benefit from the #urbanfarmrevolution & homesteading shift many families are attempting to make.

If you’d like to be more present for your family, keep your career here in the city, & start a meaningful side hustle; join us in this journey. Hopefully soon we will have quite the community here in the South Sound of Washington & we can all help each other.

We like to think we are bringing the small town feel & community of the country back into the city.

Hey there! I’m many things, but a defining characteristic of me is: I like to try to do hard things. I may not be successful, but I sure do like to try! That often means I like projects, biting off more than I can chew, & I have lots of titles.

Another huge part of who I am is: I LOVE people! I love making friends, meeting people, & I always have. Going to a community event? I will likely be there, or at least I’m always trying to attend/participate.

I’m the stay-at-home-farmer in our family’s dynamic. I run this homestead while Tanner is a work, with my mini-farmers.

Some of my favorite outdoor hobbies include water sports (ie. Kayaking, swimming, boating, etc), camping, & hiking. My favorite indoor hobbies are: writing music, painting, & quoting/watching movies – Disney’s are my favorites.

My day job is being a landscape designer for a residential landscaping contractor in west Olympia near Tumwater, WA: Nature Perfect Landscape & Design. I love working for their company. Our urban farm is a pet project Megan & I have been dreaming of since we were newlyweds in college.

After deciding to “sell the farm” so I could be closer to work/minimize my commute, I have quickly learned apartment life is hard for anyone who likes to be outside, work with their hands, or play in the dirt.

My family & time with them is what matters most to me. I have felt like the modern homesteading movement is a call back to our roots. We as humans were meant to work hard outside, and not be stuck in a box.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my work as a landscape designer! I get to help people have an outdoor space they want to be in regularly. We need that as humans.

However, my drive to be with my family after work is why I’m drawn to urban farming. My career field demands I live the city life, however I loved growing up in a small town in eastern Oregon. I want my kids to grow up with the same values my farming community had.

Some of my favorite outdoor activities are: hiking, camping, gardening & carpentry. Some of my favorite indoor activities are: writing my stories, drawing characters from my stories, playing the ukulele, watching movies, & Legos.
